Ian White has become the latest big name to join Team Unicorn, after ‘Diamond’s’ arrival was announced on Thursday morning. The world number 12 will make his first appearance as a Unicorn player on Saturday, when he takes on Peter Wright in the Unibet Masters in Milton Keynes.
White expressed his delight at the move, and outlined his ambitions for the near future.“It is a huge honour for me to be part of Team Unicorn,” White said. “It is a great move at an important time of my career.”
“It is all about winning a ‘major’, getting back in the world’s top 10 and having a crack at the Premier League,” he added.
The 45-year-old has enjoyed a tremendous couple of years on the PDC circuit, reaching a career high of world number eight during 2015. However, he endured a disappointing end to the year, which culminated in a first-round exit at the World Championships to young Belgian star, Dimitri van den Bergh.
White’s greatest successes have come on the Pro Tour, where he has won four ranking titles. The Stoke-on-Trent star has also reached six major quarter-finals in televised events, but he’s yet to record that elusive major semi-final appearance.
This is a hurdle Ian is determined to overcome with Unicorn. “It is about time that I was doing better than quarter-finals in the big TV tournaments. I know I have the game, which is why 2016 is so important for me and my career.”
Unicorn Managing Director Edward Lowy is delighted with the acquisition of the former News of the World finalist. “Welcome Ian! It is great to have ‘Diamond’ White joining Team Unicorn’s prestigious Maestro category.
“We have very much enjoyed prototyping his new darts. Ian’s signature Maestro darts will be available in the first quarter of 2016,” Lowy added.
