2016 German Darts Masters Draw!

World number one Michael van Gerwen could begin the defence of his German Darts Masters title against home favourite Reine Eidams, in a repeat of their classic first-round World Championship clash last year, after the draw for this weekend’s event in Munich was made on Friday evening.

However, Eidams must firstly overcome ‘The Rock’ Peter Hudson in round-one on Saturday. Van Gerwen, who defeated John Henderson to win last year’s event, will be hoping for a repeat performance in 2016.

World champion Gary Anderson could take on Daryl Gurney in round-two, in a repeat of their World Championship clash in December. However, Gurney, who reached the final of the Dutch Darts Masters last month, must defeat young Belgian star Dimitri van den Bergh before even contemplating a showdown with ‘The Flying Scotsman’.

Adrian Lewis, who won the inaugural staging of the German Darts Masters back in 2012, will take on either John Bowles or Fabian Herz. Elsewhere, fourth seed James Wade will either meet Raymond van Barneveld’s protege Mike Zuydwijk, or the in-form Joe Cullen, who reached his first major TV quarter-final at the UK Open three weeks ago.

Three-Time European Tour winner Michael Smith could meet former BDO man Jeffrey de Graaf in the last 32, if the talented Dutchman can overcome Darren Johnson on Friday. Dave Chisnall, who along with Smith is facing the prospect of Premier League elimination next week, faces a tough tie against either Alan Norris or Jermaine Wattimena.

Robert Thornton, fresh from his Premier League exploits on Thursday, will meet the winner of Ben Davies or Chris Dobey, whilst eighth seed Kim Huybrechts will either play William O’Connor, or home-favourite Tomas Seyler.

Benito van de Pas, who reached his maiden European Tour final at the International Darts Open twelve months ago, faces a tricky second-round tie against either Devon Petersen or Nathan Aspinall, whilst Mensur Suljovic could lock horns with former BDO world number one James Wilson on Saturday evening, if Wilson overcomes Marko Puls.

Jelle Klaasen could come up against his stablemate at Sports Management Company, Ronny Huybrechts, whilst Ian White prepares to take on either Mark Walsh or Thomas Junghans. Meanwhile, Brendan Dolan will aim to rectify his floundering form when he faces either Mark Barilli or talented Spaniard Cristo Reyes.

Nine-Time major finalist Terry Jenkins will meet the winner of an intriguing first-round tussle between Andrew Gilding and James Richardson, whilst former European Tour finalist Justin Pipe could meet his close friend Kevin Painter in round-two, if ‘The Artist’ can brush aside Cheshire’s Stuart Kellett.

However, the tie of the second-round will unquestionably feature third seed Peter Wright; PDC European Darts Open champion back in 2014. Snakebite will meet the winner of a pulsating first-round clash between former world champions Stephen Bunting and Steve Beaton.

Bunting won his second PDC ranking event in Barnsley a fortnight ago, whilst Beaton has also enjoyed a relatively strong start to 2016. The pair have already clashed this year, with ‘The Bronzed Adonis’ prevailing 6-4 in the quarter-finals of UK Open qualifier 6 last month.
