Michael van Gerwen will begin the defence of his Gibraltar Darts Trophy title against either Nick Fulwell or home-favourite Antony Lopez on Saturday, whilst world-champion Gary Anderson could face in-form Alan Norris, after the draw for the tournament was made on Thursday.

The field for the Peperami Gibraltar Darts Trophy was finalised on Thursday evening at the Host Nation Qualifier, where David Francis, George Federico, Dyson Parody and Antony Lopez were the four men to win spots in front of their home crowd on The Rock.

Adrian Lewis could face fellow Stoke star Andy Hamilton in round-two, in a repeat of their 2012 World Championship final meeting. However, ‘The Hammer’ must firstly overcome World-Youth champion Max Hopp before contemplating a clash against Jackpot.

The first-round matches will take place across a double-session on Friday and the stand-out opening round tie is a clash between young stars Daryl Gurney and David Pallett. The winner of this contest will face world number five Peter Wright in round-two.

In-form Joe Cullen, a semi-finalist in last month’s German Darts Masters, will face former major winner Kevin Painter, whilst former Lakeside champion Stephen Bunting takes on veteran Mark Walsh.

Home-favourite Dyson Parody will take on the enigmatic Dutchman Dirk van Duijvenbode, whilst Players Championship seven winner Gerwyn Price will meet another host-nation qualifier, David Francis.

Kyle Anderson faces Steve West, whilst the exciting Austrian Rowby-John Rodriguez meets quick-fire Dutchman Jermaine Wattimena. 2012 Lakeside world champion Christian Kist will lock horns with Spanish star Cristo Reyes, whilst two-time major semi-finalist Justin Pipe takes on Jamie Lewis, a semi-finalist here twelve months ago.

The likes of James Wade, Michael Smith, Jelle Klaasen, Dave Chisnall and Kim Huybrechts will also be in action in Gibraltar this weekend, but Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld won’t be present. Taylor suffered a surprise qualification defeat to Ross Smith, whilst Van Barneveld opted not to enter the European Tour qualifier.
