James Richardson, Kyle Anderson, Jamie Caven, Wes Newton, Jonny Clayton, Steve West and Mark Frost all secured qualification for both the Austrian Darts Open and European Darts Open at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena on Friday evening. However, it was Richardson who stole the show, hitting a 9-darter in qualification for European Tour event six.

Richardson qualified for the Austrian Darts Open after thrashing Mickey Mansell 6-1, before edging past Jay Foreman and Joe Murnan.’Ruthless’ then recorded a magnificent 9-darter against Justin Pipe in the first-round of qualifying for European Tour six, beating ‘The Force’ 6-3, before easing past Arron Monk to secure a qualification double.

Kyle Anderson also enjoyed a fine qualification double in Coventry. Kyle qualified for the fifth European Tour event of 2016 with successive 6-4 victories against Ryan Palmer and Darren Johnson respectively.

‘The Original’ then confirmed his spot in July’s European Darts Open in Dusseldorf with comprehensive wins over Steve McNally and Mark Barilli, dropping just three legs over both encounters.

The established duo of Jamie Caven and Wes Newton also secured qualification doubles, but this was a particularly welcome return to form for Newton, who is yet to make a European Tour appearance this year.

Jonny Clayton, Steve West and Mark Frost also delivered fine qualification campaigns in Coventry. Clayton defeated compatriot Jamie Lewis to qualify for the Austrian Darts Open, whilst he eased past Josh Payne to qualify for Dusseldorf.

Frost also claimed big scalps; beating Gilding and Mark Webster across both qualifiers, whilst West defeated Jamie Lewis and Andy Smith to confirm his spot in July’s European Darts Open.

Mervyn King, Brendan Dolan, Steve Beaton, Justin Pipe and James Wilson were just some of the big names to qualify for the Austrian Darts Open, but they were unable to produce the qualification double.

Players Championship six winner Josh Payne also booked his place in Vienna, along with the in-form duo of Chris Dobey and Jonny Clayton.Wayne Jones, Nigel Heydon, Mark Frost, Darron Brown, Simon Stevenson and Steve McNally completed the haul of qualifiers for the fifth European Tour event of the year.

Former world finalists Alan Norris and Andy Hamilton recovered from the disappointment of missing out on qualification for European Tour event five, by sealing their spots in Dusseldorf. Norris whitewashed Mark Hylton and defeated World-Youth championship finalist Nathan Aspinall, whilst Hamilton defeated the duo of John Part and Ricky Evans.

Recent Players Championship winner Gerwyn Price sealed his spot in Germany without dropping a leg, after whitewashing both David Wilson and Stephen Willard. Dutch Darts Masters finalist Daryl Gurney will also be present in Dusseldorf. Gurney thrashed Dean Winstanley, before coming through a deciding-leg against Keegan Brown.

Robbie Green, John Henderson and Devon Petersen all secured qualification for European Tour event six, and they will be joined on German soil by Andy Jenkins, Andy Boulton, Shaun Griffiths, Tony Newell, Harry Ward and Ritchie Edhouse.

It was a disappointing evening for three-time world champion John Part, who was unable to qualify for either event, losing to Andy Hamilton and Jamie Caven respectively.Former world champion Mark Webster also missed out on qualification, along with 2012 Players Championship finals winner Kevin Painter.

Elsewhere, Joe Cullen, Andrew Gilding, Paul Nicholson, Jamie Lewis, Keegan Brown, Ronnie Baxter and Dean Winstanley all failed to qualify for either event, which illustrates the strength in depth within the PDC at present.
