World number one Michael van Gerwen will begin his assault for a fourth consecutive Dubai Darts Masters title against Peter Wright, when the tournament gets underway on Thursday evening, in the unique open-air setting of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium.
The first PDC World Series of Darts tournament of 2016 will see eight of the world’s best battle it out, but Van Gerwen will be hot favourite. MvG has yet to taste defeat in Dubai, and he’ll be hoping to maintain his unblemished record when he takes on Wright, in a repeat of the 2014 final.
Elsewhere, world champion Gary Anderson will begin his bid for a maiden World Series title when he takes on five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld, a finalist in Dubai back in 2013.
Phil Taylor will be hoping to add this title to his illustrious list of honours when he takes on eight-time major winner James Wade, in a repeat of the 2015 Perth Darts Masters final. Taylor was beaten by Van Gerwen in the final here twelve months ago, and the 16-time world champion will be eager to go one step further in 2016.
Finally, two-time world champion Adrian Lewis will take on three-time major finalist Dave Chisnall. Lewis, the winner of the 2015 Auckland Darts Masters, has never gone beyond the semi-finals in Dubai, but he can kick-start his campaign with victory over Chizzy- a three-time World Series semi-finalist.
