The entries have been confirmed for the upcoming Grand Slam of Darts qualifier and the World Series of Darts Finals qualifier, which will both be hosted at the Barnsley Metrodome on Sunday 23rd October.
This qualification double-header will follow the final two Players Championship events of the year, which take place on Friday and Saturday. In the Grand Slam qualifier, eight spots will be available to PDC Tour Card holders and PDPA Associate Members who competed at Q-School, with games being played over the best of nine legs throughout.
Additionally, eight “losing finalists” who suffer defeat in the last 16 will form a reserve list in world ranking order, in the event that any of the eight qualifiers go on to secure automatic qualification by reaching the final of either the European Championship or the World Series of Darts Finals.
However, the World Series of Darts Finals qualifier will be comprised solely of PDC Tour card holders, with games being played over the best of eleven legs. Nevertheless, only four spots are available for next month’s event at the Braehead Arena, Glasgow.
There are a number of high-profile names competing in the qualifiers. Former Grand Slam finalist Robert Thornton will be hoping to secure a spot in Wolverhampton, as will last year’s semi-finalist Michael Smith. However, the pair won’t compete in the World Series qualifier, after receiving invitations along with Jelle Klaasen and Mensur Suljovic.
Nevertheless, stars competing in both qualifiers include former world champions Stephen Bunting and Mark Webster, as well as a rejuvenated Simon Whitlock. Kim Huybrechts and Ian White will also need to qualify for both events, despite being on the periphery of the world’s top ten.
One man hoping to maintain his stunning run of form is Steve West, who will compete in the qualification double-header. German Darts Champion Alan Norris has sealed his Grand Slam spot but will still compete in the World Series qualifier, whilst Dutchmen Benito van de Pas and Vincent van der Voort will feature in both events.
Three-time world champion John Part will be aiming to secure a spot in his first televised major for over 18 months when he competes in both qualifiers, whilst Steve Beaton, Kevin Painter, Paul Nicholson and Ronnie Baxter are all familiar faces aiming to secure spots in Wolverhampton and Glasgow.
