Massive shock to conclude the opening day of action here in Minehead. World number two Gary Anderson is dumped out by Riley’s qualifier Paul Hogan in an epic deciding leg. Anderson had a match dart at the bull and suffered a cruel bounce-out, as Hogan pinned the D8 that haunted him at Lakeside to prevail! Incredible drama!

Raymond van Barneveld has seen off a spirited Barrie Bates to book his spot in round-four. In a repeat of their 2006 UK Open Final, Bates led the Dutchman 5-4, but Van Barneveld won six of the remaining seven legs to prevail 10-6 with a solid 94.60 average.

2012 champion Robert Thornton is safely through to round-three after a comprehensive whitewash win against Riley’s qualifier Kevin Bambrick. ‘The Thorn’ is one of three players in the field to have won this title before, along with Raymond van Barneveld & James Wade, and he secured a routine win with a solid 93.94 average.

BDO world number seven Dean Reynolds has been edged out in round-two by Mick McGowan. Nevertheless, Paul Hogan marches on after claiming the scalp of Welsh star Jamie Lewis, whilst Brian ‘Pecker’ Woods defeats Tony Newell 6-4 to secure his place in the hat for round-three.

Stephen Bunting’s woes continue as he’s resoundingly beaten by fellow Lakeside world champion Mark Webster in round-two. The Welshman averaged 99.78, crashed in five maximums and landed finishes of 102, 124 and 127 to prevail 6-2. This is Webster’s fifth straight win over ‘The Bullet’, who now drops out of the world’s top 20.
15:10: JUSTIN PIPE PRODUCES PERFORMANCE OF THE DAY SO FAR!
Taunton star Justin Pipe is through to round-three after producing an imperious display to whitewash promising Suffolk youngster Ryan Meikle. The three-time major semi-finalist averaged 102.48, landed two maximums and converted 60% of his double attempts to triumph.

Nine-time major finalist Terry Jenkins has been dumped out by Wayne Jones in round-two. ‘The Raging Bull’ was a finalist here in Minehead back in 2014, but he won’t be repeating that performance this time around after losing 6-2 to the Wolverhampton star.
