German Darts Masters Draw!

Adrian Lewis will take on Daryl Gurney in the first-round of the German Darts Masters on Saturday, whilst five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld will face his fellow Dutchman Michael Plooy, after the draw and schedule for this weekend’s European Tour event in Jena were confirmed.

Lewis battled through the UK qualifiers to seal his spot in this weekend’s event and he will travel to Germany buoyed by his nine-dart heroics in last night’s Premier League. ‘Jackpot’ netted £15,000 after achieving the feat against Raymond van Barneveld in Liverpool, but the two-time world champion faces a very tough first-round tie.

Lewis, who won the inaugural staging of this event back in 2012, begins his campaign against Daryl Gurney, who is fresh from his maiden PDC ranking victory in Barnsley last weekend. ‘Super-Chin’ defeated Kim Huybrechts to win Players Championship Seven last Saturday, to move to the top of the Players Championship Order of Merit.

Five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld will kick off his assault for a second European Tour title against his compatriot Michael Plooy. Van Barneveld only made the solitary European Tour appearance last year, where he made the semi-finals, whilst Plooy made his European Tour debut at last month’s German Darts Championship.

2015 World Grand Prix champion Robert Thornton takes on another talented Dutchman in the shape of Dirk van Duijvenbode, as former Lakeside world champion Mark Webster plays Robbie Green in one of the most attractive opening-round ties.

Former European Tour winners Mervyn King and Justin Pipe face Sven Groen and Daniel Larsson respectively, whilst Australian ace Kyle Anderson faces an entertaining showdown with the veteran Ronnie Baxter.

Ronny Huybrechts begins his campaign with a tasty tie against Jonny Clayton, whilst Clayton’s fellow Welshman Jamie Lewis faces Zoran Lerchbacher, who came through the European qualifiers to seal his place in Jena. Elsewhere, the diminutive Rowby-John Rodriguez locks horns with Polish number one Krzysztof Ratajski.

Former BDO world number three Jeffrey de Graaf takes on ‘Rapid’ Ricky Evans, whilst 19-year-old Ted Evetts, appearing in just his second European Tour event, faces former Pro Tour winner Joe Murnan.

Greece’s John Michael, English pair Andrew Gilding and Brian Woods and Wales’ Robert Owen will learn their first round opponents following Friday’s Host Nation Qualifier, which will produce the four German hopefuls to complete the 48-player field.

Sunday’s second round sees the 16 seeded players enter the fray, with top seed Michael van Gerwen set to take on either John Michael or one of the four host-nation qualifiers. Meanwhile, German Darts Championship winner Peter Wright will face a tough opening assignment against either Green or Webster.

Third seed Mensur Suljovic will play his Austrian compatriot Lerchbacher or Jamie Lewis, whilst fourth seed Simon Whitlock begins his campaign with a meeting against either Ronny Huybrechts or Clayton.

Eight-time major winner James Wade meets either Thornton or van Dujivenbode, whilst fifth seed Benito van de Pas will begin his assault for a maiden European Tour title against Ratajski or Rowby-John Rodriguez.

Sixth seed Ian White plays De Graaf or Evans, whilst 2016 German Darts champion Alan Norris faces a potential second-round showdown with Raymond van Barneveld, if the legendary Dutchman can overcome Plooy.

Two-time European Tour winner Kim Huybrechts faces either Pipe or Larsson, before UK Open finalist Gerwyn Price looks ahead to a possible all-Welsh clash with Robert Owen. Another exciting contest sees injury-hit Jelle Klaasen face the ominous prospect of a second-round meeting with one of Gurney or Adrian Lewis.

Three-time European Tour winner Michael Smith will play either Brian Woods or a host-nation qualifier, whilst Joe Cullen, who along with Gurney clinched his maiden Players Championship title last weekend, will open up against Andrew Gilding or another home favourite.

The remaining second-round ties see Steve West do battle with Kyle Anderson or Baxter, whilst former Lakeside world champion Stephen Bunting plays either Ted Evetts or Joe Murnan. Finally, sixteenth seed Cristo Reyes will kick off his campaign with a tussle against Mervyn King or Sven Groen.

The tournament concludes on Easter Monday, with the third-round, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final all taking place on an action-packed day of darts. The full draw and tournament schedule can be viewed below.
