Five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld has sensationally revealed that he will open his own darting foundation in the Seychelles next week.
In a statement posted on his twitter account on Monday morning, Van Barneveld confirmed: “On June 14th, me and my wife will fly to the beautiful island of the Seychelles to open the Raymond van Barneveld Darts Foundation!
“I was invited by Sporting Life Inc. to come to their island and open my foundation to honour me. It feels fantastic and I would like to thank all of the sponsors who made this possible – Air Seychelles, The Savoy Seychelles Resort & Spa, Coco der Mer Hotel, Acajou Beach Resort, Sporting Life Inc. and in particular; Mr Jeffrey Payet!”
Van Barneveld, who clinched his third World Cup of Darts title alongside Michael van Gerwen over the weekend, set up his own darting stable ‘Team Bengi’ in 2015, with the help of his manager Jaco van Bodegom. Barney’s list of Dutch proteges include the talented trio of Jeffrey de Zwaan, Dirk van Duijvenbode and Mike Zuydwijk.
The five-time world champion has been a tremendous darting ambassador for almost three decades, and his commitment to developing the future of Dutch darts is admirable. He will undoubtedly go down as one of the finest players of all time, and this latest honour is befitting of the legendary legacy he will leave behind in the sport.
