Raymond van Barneveld landed a sensational 170 finish to seal victory over former world No 1 Colin Lloyd and sign off from the Kings of Darts exhibition tour in style, as Michael van Gerwen produced a stirring comeback to record a third consecutive win over Gerwyn Price.
The third and final event of the 2020 Kings of Darts roadshow was held in Groningen on Tuesday night, after some of the sport’s biggest names had visited Den Bosch and Enschede earlier in the week.
Van Barneveld, who had beaten Wayne Mardle, Fallon Sherrock and Tony O’Shea by an aggregate score of 17-2 ahead of the final event, made it four wins from four by defeating two-time major winner Lloyd 6-4, wrapping up the victory with a majestic 170 checkout to send the Dutch crowd wild.
Elsewhere, Van Gerwen made it a hat-trick of wins over Price on home soil after producing another impressive fightback to oust ‘The Iceman’. MvG recovered from 6-2 down to defeat the Grand Slam champion in the first event, before thrashing him 8-1 in Sunday’s showpiece.
Price appeared poised to gain a semblance of retribution after establishing a 6-3 lead against the world No 1, but Van Gerwen came roaring back, levelling proceedings with a sublime 160 kill and reeling off five consecutive legs to close out an 8-6 success.
However, Price did register victory earlier in the evening, defeating ‘Queen of the Palace’ Fallon Sherrock 5-1. Premier League star Daryl Gurney battled past Vincent van der Voort 5-3, whilst Tuesday’s curtain-raiser saw Darryl Fitton record a 4-1 victory over Wayne Mardle.
