In our latest episode of the Josh’s Dartistry Podcast, Josh Gorton is joined by regular co-host Jon Dean to round-up another hectic few weeks of darting action, with Neil Conner making a cameo appearance in the latest instalment of ‘Challenge Josh’.
First up, we reflect on Michael van Gerwen ending his title ‘drought’ with victory at last weekend’s UK Open, where he defeated Gerwyn Price in a thrilling final. We also look back on the last few weeks of Premier League action, before previewing Night Six in Liverpool.
Josh also caught up with PDC commentator Dan Dawson – who was on ITV presenting duty at the UK Open. Dan gave his thoughts on a memorable weekend in Minehead, the Premier League season so far and two players to watch in 2020 following a sensational start to the Pro Tour campaign.
UK Open Round-Up (4:30-16:50) – Van Gerwen secured his first PDC title since November courtesy of his third UK Open success. ‘The Green Machine’ boasted a tournament average of 104.39, landed his seventh televised nine-darter and saw off five major champions en route to glory.
Premier League Round-Up (16:55-33:40) – It’s shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable Premier League seasons in recent memory. Glen Durrant currently tops the tree with Van Gerwen suffering two defeats from his last three, whilst Daryl Gurney remains cut adrift at the bottom.
What are the odds? (34-45- 40:25) – With our resident stats man Neil absent, Josh provides us with the latest odds ahead of Night Six of the Premier League in Liverpool. We also assess how the opening five weeks of competition have affected the overall tournament betting.
Dan Dawson Interview (40:30-54:50) – Dan Dawson recaps a frenetic yet fascinating three days of UK Open action, before giving his assessment on an unpredictable start to the Premier League season. Dan also picks out two ‘unheralded’ stars that he’s tipping to flourish in 2020.
PDC Pro Tour Update (56:00-1:00:00) – It’s been a scintillating start to the Pro Tour season and since our last episode, we’ve had another Players Championship double-header in Wigan plus the opening European Tour event of the season – Gerwyn Price featuring in all three finals.
Challenge Josh (1:00:05-1:21:45)– Neil tests Josh’s knowledge of the history of the UK Open in another topical edition of Challenge Josh.
In The News (1:23:20-1:27:00) – Josh provides an update on how the Coronavirus pandemic is impacting the darting world, with two European Tour events postponed in Germany. We also have news regarding Andy Fordham, who has been hospitalised with a possible abdominal infection.
