Taylor takes on Sherrock in latest edition of ‘Darts At Home’

Phil Taylor will take on Fallon Sherrock in the latest edition of ‘Darts At Home’ in aid of the NHS this coming Thursday, and the action will be broadcast on Sky Sports.

The 16-time world champion was edged out by his old adversary Raymond van Barneveld 7-6 on the Target Nexus soft-tip board last month and the two juggernauts raised an incredible £15,000 for charity, after trading 15 maximums in just 13 legs.

‘The Power’ returned for a second appearance last week, defeating reigning women’s world champion Mikuru Suzuki 7-5. Taylor raised £6,800 for the NHS Heroes in the ongoing fight against Covid-19, whilst ‘The Miracle’ amassed £4,400 for her chosen charity – Peace Winds.

The 59-year-old will now lock horns with Sherrock, who has established herself as a global superstar following her ground-breaking exploits at the recent PDC World Championship, defeating Ted Evetts and Mensur Suljovic to become the first woman to triumph on the Alexandra Palace stage.

The clash is taking place in association with Paddy Power and Target Darts and once again, Paddy Power have pledged to donate £1,000 to the NHS for every maximum hit. However, in similar vein to last week, an extra £200 will be on offer every time a player pins a double at the first attempt.

Although this will be the first time Taylor and Sherrock have collided in the soft-tip environment, they have met twice in MODUS’ online leagues over recent weeks. Taylor edged out Sherrock 4-3 a fortnight ago, before recovering from 3-1 down to prevail in Sunday’s Champions Series.

Sherrock acquitted herself impressively and converted three ton-plus checkouts across both matches and that augurs well ahead of their latest showdown, particularly considering the larger segments on the Nexus soft-tip board.

There are some notable differences with the Target Nexus Boards as opposed to ordinary steel-tip boards. In soft-tip, the size of the trebles are bigger and the bullseye is often a preferred target for players, particularly in the latter stages of legs, as the outer bull also counts as 50 points.

Taylor has been in sparkling form in his recent online outings, topping the table in last weekend’s Champions Series and missing double 12 for a nine-dart finish against Martin Adams. This will be Sherrock’s first competitive soft-tip appearance, but she’s proven that she relishes the big occasion.

As well as being available to watch on Sky Sports from 7pm on Thursday, the match can also be viewed via Target Darts’ and Paddy Power’s social media channels.
