Josh’s Dartistry Darts Podcast – Episode 23

In our latest episode of the Josh’s Dartistry Podcast, Josh Gorton is joined by regular co-hosts Jon Dean and Neil Conner to round-up the latest darting news, as the innovative ‘Darts At Home’ concept continues to thrive despite the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The initial first phase of the PDC Home Tour concluded on Monday night and Josh reflects on a tournament of surprises which has seen just four of the world’s top ten advance to the last 32, with Michael van Gerwen and Daryl Gurney among those opting not to compete.

We also discuss the success of Modus’ Icons of Darts live league which has featured a host of established names, although the likes of David Evans, Wessel Nijman and Arron Monk have been the stars of the show thus far, with Monk landing a nine-darter earlier in the competition.

Phil Taylor has competed in a number of online events during the lockdown period and the 16-time world champion has impressed throughout. The team discuss the possibility of a sensational return for ‘The Power’ and whether he would have the hunger to make a permanent comeback.

Josh also caught up with former World Matchplay semi-finalist Jeffrey de Zwaan, who discussed life in lockdown, missing out on a Premier League homecoming in Rotterdam and a potential World Cup debut, plus overcoming the prospect of bankruptcy at the end of 2017.

Darts At Home (8:33-20:03) – Josh discusses some of the major talking points from the various online darts events that have emerged over recent weeks, including the PDC Home Tour, Modus’ live league, the WDF Remote Darts League and ‘Darts At Home’.

Return of The Power? (20:04-27:55) – The team discuss the popularity of online darts and its future post lockdown. We analyse Phil Taylor rolling back the years over recent weeks and debate the prospect him coming out of retirement, although Josh remains sceptical on a full-time return.

Jeffrey de Zwaan Interview (34:10-47:08) – Josh brings us an exclusive interview with the current Dutch number two. De Zwaan opens up on life in lockdown, his World Cup aspirations and his dreams of becoming world champion within the next five years.

Challenge Josh (47:12-1:18:20) – Challenge Josh is back with a bang! Neil tests Josh’s knowledge of ‘Darts At Home’ and some of the most obscure online darts games in a topical episode!

BDO Update (1:27:10-1:34:35) – It’s been another eventful few weeks in the British Darts Organisation, with Des Jacklin being reinstated as Chairman less than five weeks after tendering his resignation. The boys give their assessments of the astonishing developments.

Q&A section (1:34:40-1:49:30) – As usual, we answer a series of questions sent in by the JDP listeners. The trio discuss the future of soft-tip darts following the popularity of ‘Darts At Home’ on the electronic Nexus boards, before taking a trip down memory lane to reflect on some classic matches.
