In our first episode of the Josh’s Dartistry Darts Podcast in 2021, Josh Gorton is joined by regular co-hosts Jon Dean and Neil Conner to round-up the latest darting action.
There’s only one place to start – Gerwyn Price! The Welshman lifted the World Darts Championship title with a 7-3 victory over Gary Anderson on January 3, which also elevated him to world No 1 on the PDC Order of Merit at the expense of Michael van Gerwen, who lost out in the quarter-finals.
Josh caught up with ‘The Iceman’ just over a fortnight after he claimed the Sid Waddell Trophy, and Price was understandably in buoyant mood as he outlined his targets for 2021 and beyond.
World Championship Round-Up (11:15) – The team reflect on an absorbing three weeks of action at Alexandra Palace. Gerwyn Price pocketed the £500,000 top prize, but Gary Anderson and Stephen Bunting enjoyed revivals, as a host of big names suffered surprise early exits.
Gerwyn Price Interview (39:05) – The 35-year-old explains what it means to become world champion and world No 1, reflects on his meteoric rise, discusses the impact of the darting crowds on his development, before bullishly revealing his World Championship title target.
Premier League Darts Line-Up (52:10) – Nine of the ten players that will feature in this year’s Premier League Darts were confirmed following the world final, but the panel speculate which player will receive the tenth and final spot in the sport’s biggest roadshow.
What are the odds? (1:02:20) – Our resident stats man Neil Conner brings us odds for the upcoming Ladbrokes Masters, with the world’s top 24 set to compete in the season-opener. We also look at the current odds for the Premier League, which is expected to get underway after Easter.
Challenge Josh (1:09:15) – Challenge Josh returns as Neil tests Josh’s general darting knowledge in another unmissable episode, based on the newly crowned world champion Gerwyn Price.
Qualifying School Preview (1:30:00) – Josh brings us the latest information ahead of next month’s PDC Qualifying Schools. There’s a change of format for this year’s event, with the likes of Raymond van Barneveld, John Part and Robert Thornton expected to be in attendance.
Q&A section (1:37:25) – The trio answer a series of questions sent in by the JDP listeners. We discuss players to watch at Q School, the tenth and final pick for this year’s Premier League, and the impact of the behind-closed-doors environment on the sport’s elite.
