Dimitri Van den Bergh has been ruled out of this year’s Grand Slam of Darts, and will be replaced by Chris Dobey in Wolverhampton.
2021 World Matchplay finalist Van den Bergh was due to headline Group D at the Grand Slam, but he received a positive test result for Covid-19, and is subsequently self-isolating in Belgium.
As a result, the world No 5 will not be able to compete in this year’s showpiece which begins on Saturday November 13 at the Aldersley Leisure Village.
Van den Bergh will be replaced directly in Group D by the next highest-ranked player from the same qualification criteria – Dobey.
‘Hollywood’ reached the quarter-finals in his only previous Grand Slam appearance in 2016, and he’s enjoyed a breakthrough campaign on the Pro Tour, claiming two Players Championship titles.
The two-time major semi-finalist will face Rowby-John Rodriguez in his opening match on Saturday afternoon, with World Championship semi-finalist Stephen Bunting and qualifier Ryan Joyce also featuring in Group D.
