Josh’s Dartistry Darts Podcast – Episode 30

We’re joined by the newly crowned world champion Peter Wright in our latest episode of the Josh’s Dartistry podcast, as we reflect on a thrilling World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace.

Josh Gorton is joined by regular co-hosts Jon Dean and Neil Conner to round-up all the action from a fascinating three weeks of action in the capital, which featured three nine-dart finishes and a host of epic encounters.

However, the headlines were dominated by world No 2 Wright, who became just the sixth man in PDC history to land multiple world crowns with a 7-5 victory over Michael Smith on January 3.

Josh caught up with ‘Snakebite’ in his post-match press conference, just minutes after his triumph, and that features in a bumper episode which also sees the return of Challenge Josh, and a look ahead to Q School, the Masters and much more…

World Darts Championship review (9:05) – Wright claimed the £500,000 top prize at Ally Pally, while Michael Smith once again came agonisingly close to landing his elusive first major. Josh, Jon and Neil reflect on a wonderful tournament, and the key talking points.

Peter Wright – post-match reaction (38:25) – Wright joins an exclusive group of players to have lifted multiple PDC World Championship titles, and he discussed his pride at joining fellow Scots Gary Anderson and Jocky Wilson on two titles apiece, before insisting he had no imminent retirement plans.

Q-School preview What are the odds? (53:05) – Over 650 players are vying for a coveted PDC Tour Card at the respective Qualifying Schools in Milton Keynes and Niedernhausen over the coming week. Josh revealed some of the big names set to be in action, while resident stats man Neil brought us some odds ahead of the event.

Challenge Josh 1:05:20) – Challenge Josh returns this week, and with the inaugural World Seniors Championship on the horizon, Jon and Neil turned back the clock to test Josh’s knowledge ahead of next month’s showpiece.

In The News (1:34:25) – The team reveal their Premier League picks for 2022, after the announcement of this year’s line-up was delayed. Josh also looks ahead to the season-opening Masters later this month, while there’s news of another major tournament added to the World Seniors circuit.

Q&A section (1:47:03) – The team answer a series of questions sent in by the JDP listeners to round off Episode 30. We discuss the impact of positive COVID-19 tests at this year’s World Championship, what it meant for the tournament, and the PDC’s decision to delay naming the 2022 Premier League Darts line-up.
