Kevin Painter is the latest player to accept an invitation for the inaugural World Seniors Masters, which takes place at the iconic Lakeside Country Club in May.
‘The Artist’ featured in the star-studded 24-player line-up at the World Seniors Championship earlier this month, defeating Tony O’Shea, Wayne Warren and Phil Taylor before succumbing to eventual champion Robert Thornton in the semi-finals.
Painter – a World Championship runner-up in 2004 – posted the highest average of the tournament in his straight-sets demolition of 2020 BDO world champion Warren, before dispatching 16-time world champion Taylor 3-0 in the quarter-finals.
The former Players Champion could renew his rivalry against ‘The Power’ at the Masters – the next major offering on the World Seniors circuit, and they will be joined by World Seniors Champion Thornton at the Lakeside from May 27-29.
Martin Adams – runner-up at the Circus Tavern last month – lifted his three BDO world titles at the Lakeside, while Trina Gulliver MBE and Lisa Ashton are set to return to the scene of their greatest triumphs, having also featured at the World Seniors Championship.
Three-time world champions John Part and John Lowe MBE are set to headline, along with 1983 world champion Keith Deller and Bob Anderson – the first man to land three successive World Masters crowns.
Three-time BDO world finalist O’Shea, 2004 UK Open champion Roland Scholten and former World Masters champions Colin Monk and Les Wallace are also rumoured to be involved, with the remaining players set to be unveiled over the coming weeks.
