Darting legend Paul Lim is the final player to receive an invitation to the World Seniors Masters in May, after winning a public vote ahead of the tournament’s inaugural staging at the Lakeside Country Club.
Lim was one of seven players included in the fans’ vote, alongside former World Matchplay champions Larry Butler and Peter Evison, 2000 World Master John Walton, three-time world finalist Peter Manley, four-time major semi-finalist Chris Mason and Dutch favourite Co Stompe.
‘The Singapore Slinger’ received a staggering 37.2% of the vote, and will therefore make his first appearance at Lakeside since 1994, when he was beaten 3-0 by eventual champion John Part in the second round of the BDO World Championship.
The 68-year-old etched his name into the history books at the iconic venue four years earlier, becoming the first player in World Championship history to land a nine-dart finish during his second round clash against Jack McKenna.
Lim has enjoyed a remarkable career spanning five decades, making his 26th World Championship appearance at Alexandra Palace in December. He was also among the star-studded 24-player line-up at the inaugural World Seniors Championship, succumbing to qualifier Dave Prins in round one.
The 2022 World Seniors Masters will take place from May 27-29 in Frimley Green, as Robert Thornton eyes a second consecutive World Seniors crown following his World Seniors Championship triumph at the Circus Tavern.
‘The Thorn’ will headline the event alongside three-time BDO world champion Martin Adams – the man he defeated to lift last month’s title – while 16-time world champion Phil Taylor returns to the scene of his first World Championship success in 1990.
Former world champions John Part, John Lowe MBE, Bob Anderson, Keith Deller and Les Wallace will also feature, while 1996 World Masters winner Colin Monk makes his World Seniors bow.
World Seniors Championship semi-finalists Kevin Painter and Terry Jenkins return following their impressive performances in Purfleet, with multiple Women’s world champions Trina Gulliver MBE and Lisa Ashton joined by two-time Women’s World Master Deta Hedman.
Former UK Open champion Roland Scholten and two-time World Masters runner-up Tony O’Shea are also included, with a further three spots available via the qualifying events in Reading from April 8-10.
