Former world darts champion Ted Hankey pleads guilty to sexual assault

Former world darts champion Ted Hankey has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a woman last September.

The 54-year-old appeared at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, accused of intentionally touching a woman over the age of 16, with prosecutor Jonathan Wilkinson confirming that the victim was under 18.

Hankey spoke to confirm his name, age and address and pleaded guilty to the charge, which relates to an incident in Crewe, Cheshire, on September 10 2021.

‘The Count’ will be sentenced at Chester Crown Court on May 12, and he was granted conditional bail by District Judge Nicholas Sanders.

Hankey is one of the sport’s most recognisable figures, having lifted the BDO World Championship title at the Lakeside Country Club in 2000 and 2009.

He was set to make his televised return at the inaugural World Seniors Darts Championship in February, only to withdraw from the event in December.
