Wright edges out Lewis to win Players Championship 1!

Peter Wright secured victory in the first Players Championship event of 2016, as he defeated two-time world champion Adrian Lewis 6-5 on Saturday afternoon at the Barnsley Metrodome. Wright trailed 5-3 in the final, but won the final three legs to seal the £10,000 winner’s cheque and his eighth PDC ranking title in the process.

Snakebite eased through to round-two with an emphatic 6-0 whitewash against Ryan Palmer, before reaching the last 16 with 6-4 victories against Cristo Reyes and Keegan Brown respectively.

Peter secured his last eight spot with a deciding leg win against Joe Murnan, before recording 6-3 wins over both Ian White and Joe Cullen to reach the final. There he produced a fine comeback , to gain revenge for his Premier League defeat against Lewis last Thursday.

However, Lewis will take immense satisfaction from his performance on Saturday afternoon, where he dethroned both Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson en route to reaching the final.

Q-School- Tour Card holders and Final Q-School OOM

Following the conclusion of the fourth and final day of Q-School at the Robin Park Tennis Centre in Wigan, where Ross Smith, Ryan Palmer, Yordi Meeuwisse and Vincent Kamphuis were the final four players to receive automatic tour-cards; the final Q-School Order of Merit list was finalised.

The Q-School Order of Merit awards tour-cards to a further 14 players; those of who amassed the most ranking points over the course of the four days.

The most high-profile player to secure a tour-card via the Q-School Order of Merit was a former UK Open finalist and a winner of multiple ranking events, Mark Walsh. Walsh was ranked first on the Order of Merit, after coming within one win of securing a tour-card on a couple of occasions this week.

Dennis Smith, a World Championship semi-finalist back in 2000, also reclaimed his tour-card via the Order of Merit, whilst World Championship preliminary qualifiers John Michael and Mick McGowan all secured their spots on the PDC Pro Tour until 2018.
