Newly crowned world champion Michael van Gerwen will begin the defence of his Betway Premier League title against two-time world champion Gary Anderson, a rematch of their recent World Championship final, when the competition gets underway at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle on Thursday February 2nd.

The opening nine weeks see the players meet once in the league phase, before the bottom two players are eliminated following Judgement Night in Cardiff.

The remaining eight players then face each other again in the remaining six league nights in April and May, before the top four players progress to compete in the Play-Offs at The O2 in London on Thursday May 18.

Van Gerwen defeated Anderson 7-3 to win his second world title a fortnight ago, halting Anderson’s incredible seventeen match winning streak at the Alexandra Palace. However, the Scotsman will have his opportunity to secure instant retribution when the tournament gets underway in Newcastle. Continue reading “Premier League Darts 2017- Fixtures Confirmed!”

Five-Time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld and eight-time major winner James Wade are among the wildcard selections for the 2016 Premier League, as World Number 8 Michael Smith prepares to make his debut in the competition, when the action gets underway in Leeds on February 4th.

The line-up for the 2016 Premier League was announced by PDC Chairman Barry Hearn, in the immediate aftermath of Gary Anderson’s World Championship triumph. This will be the biggest season in the competition’s history, with the overall prize money totalling £700,00.

The top four players on the PDC Order of Merit are automatic entries, therefore Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson, Adrian Lewis and Phil Taylor did not have to rely on a wildcard selection.

Raymond van Barneveld moved one step closer to securing a play-off place at the O2 Arena by beating both Gary Anderson and Adrian Lewis in Birmingham. Van Barneveld came from 4-0 down against the World Champion, winning 7 out of the last 8 legs to clinch victory, whilst also clinically defeating Lewis 7-2 in the evening’s finale. Nevertheless, Raymond’s win over Anderson was embroiled in controversy, after Anderson alleged that Barney encroached into the exclusion zone when retrieving his darts, with the Scot set to throw for a point.

Brilliant Barney defies record-breaking Taylor in Glasgow

van Barneveld produced an inspired performance in Glasgow.

What an incredible night of darts at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow! Gary Anderson made a victorious return to home soil for the first time since being crowned World Champion, agonisingly missing D12 for a nine-darter in the final leg. Michael van Gerwen preserved his unbeaten record by beating Dave Chisnall 7-4; James Wade and Adrian Lewis both averaged 103 in a superb 6-6 draw, whilst Peter Wright snatched an unlikely share of the spoils against Stephen Bunting, having trailed 5-1 at one stage.

However, the match of the night was unquestionably contested between two of the greatest players in darting history, Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld. It is notoriously billed as the ‘El-Clasico’ of darts, and it certainly lived up to the hype. Van Barneveld has endured a difficult Premier League campaign, due to a combination of missed chances and inspired performances from his opponents. Nevertheless, he demonstrated his class in Glasgow, defying an astonishing 115.80 average and nine 180’s from Taylor to secure a 7-4 victory. This game has altered the record books; Taylor’s 115.80 average was the highest ever losing average recorded. Incredible!
